Some closing words. . .

In memory, the past events from our lives take on a golden hue. (At least those we like to remember do!) This special backward-looking, golden glow we call "nostalgia."

We love to plan a dinner or a special event which will give us a warm feeling inside. When we place candles on a table, turn the lights down low, and put on special, soft, memorable music, we create what we call "romance."

Nostalgia and romance are greatly loved by human beings. They are qualities found in abundance in our movies and popular songs. We create them because the poet and divine lover in all of us longs for a way to express itself. We wish to re-experience, over and over, the beauty we have known in life and the beauty we imagine.

Romance and nostalgia are not real in a concrete sense, but they are evidence of the great capacity for feeling and creativity God placed in human beings. If we can enjoy such beautiful romance and nostalgia in movies and song, how much greater, then, will be our enjoyment of heaven, which we are told is beyond our wildest imaginings!

Thank You, dear God, for giving us such a beautiful life and the capacity to continually imagine more and more beauty. We know You have given us the beauty in the world because You love us. We know, as well, that our longing for romance and nostalgia is rooted in love itself, and is very close in its essence to our longing for union with You.
